Carhenge Photo Contest

ABOUT
The Carhenge Photo challenge is a call for photographs of the roadside attraction, Carhenge. Whether your work is inspired by the classic grey of Carhenge, a silhouette at sunrise, or the new murals created in 2025, we want to see your take on this evolving art installation.

AWARD CATEGORIES (Only 1st place in each category will be awarded cash prize) Certificates of Excellent, and Honorable Mention Ribbons will be awarded in each category as well.   

$75-Best in Monochromatic (ex. Black & white, sepia, etc.)

$75-Best Seasonal Capture (winter, spring, summer, fall)

$75-Best Long Exposure (night photography)

$75-Best Use of Light (sunrise/sunset, dramatic shadows)

$75-Best Atmospheric (fog, storm clouds, dramatic sky)

 

PHOTOGRAPHY RULES/ SPECIFICATIONS
1. Submission/s must include some element of the designated subject: Carhenge.

2.Entrants must be the sole creator and copyright holder of the work.

3. Photos taken in 2023 and later are eligible for submission. Photos taken prior to 2023 are ineligible for submission.

4. Photographs can be no greater that 36”in height or width.

5. All printed photographic media are allowed, such as paper, canvas, and metal prints. Photos do not have to be framed, but must have clean, finished edges.

7. All pieces must have a secure hanging wire installed on the back. (excluding metal prints)

Artwork that does not meet the requirements within this prospectus will not be accepted.

 

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

NUMBER OF ENTRIES: A maximum of three entries per artist are allowed.

 

SUBMISSION OPTIONS: You can submit entries by mail, email, or in person. Mailed submissions will be sent to 204 W 4th St. Alliance, NE 69301. Emailed submissions will be sent to art@carnegieartscenter.com.

 

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Entry must include a completed form, photo of each entry (or physical piece), and cash, check, or marked as paid (if online) entry fee.

 

IMAGES: High resolution photo showing photograph straight on. Does not need to include frame.  

 

EMAIL SUBMISSION: If submitting photo and form by email, images must be submitted as high quality .jpg files, but no larger than 5MB in files size.

 

The email must include your images as attachments. DO NOT paste images into the email document. The file name(s) for the images should be the same as the title of the piece. You must also include the entry form as an attachment (it can be typed, or a photocopy.) The text body of the email needs to include the artist’s name and ALL contact information.

 

MAIL SUBMISSION: If submitting the physical piece or mailing an image, the piece or photo needs to be labeled with the artist’s name, title of work, dimensions, and medium. This is to ensure there is no question that we have the correct information about each artwork. Hardcopy photos will be kept by the arts center and not returned to the artist.

 

ENTRY FEES: Entry fees can be mailed, delivered in person, or paid through Carnegie’s website under classes-artist-resources/call-for-artists/carhenge-photo-contest. Payment method must be marked at the bottom of submission form.

 

LABELING: Accepted works must have identification on the back with artist’s name, title, and price. If you bring work in boxes or containers, please make sure that all containers are very clearly marked with your name, phone, and title/titles of pieces).
