Art in the Park

The Sunday following the Heritage Days festival, the Carnegie, Knight Museum, and Historic Mainstreet all collaborate to provide the community with a funfilled day of music, food, athletics, games, and art!  Art in the Park is Carnegie's contribution to the event.  This year we created mixed media projects on wooden panels.  In just one afternooon we served over 150 youth and their families.  There were even adults and teens that got in on the fun!

Winter Adventures in Art

WHAT: WINTER ADVENTURES ART WORKSHOPS
WHERE: CARNEGIE ARTS CENTER
Description: Artist Robert Peltz is the main instructor for the Adventures Workshops. This comprehensive 8 week workshop begins with non-pressure, warm up exercises. These cover drawing skills, color, and composition. It’s an instrumental part of getting the students out of their heads, away from insecurities, and their creative juices flowing. Then begins technical instruction in the featured media for that day’s class. For the younger age group, Robert works through structured lessons utilizing different media to explore landscapes, figurative, and abstract subject matter. For the older age group, he encourages exploration of their personal interests through guided instruction. In this way Mr. Peltz can customize his instruction to meet each student’s specific needs. This capitalizes on their strengths and addresses any weaknesses. Based on their experience, Mr. Peltz helps create a personal goal to meet by the end of the workshop such as a certain number of pieces or gain technical improvement in an area. Setting these goals, allows for the students to take ownership over their learning experience. Peltz’ classes are a balance between creative freedom and structure. While the goal always remains to educate students on technical and fundamental art elements, the development of an imagination is very important to Mr. Peltz. Kids need to develop creative problem solving, to think and trust in their decisions in a safe, encouraging environment.
